12 to 18 Months Before Wedding

Announce your engagement to family and friends.
If it already hasn’t happened, arrange for the in-laws to meet.
If you are having an engagement party, set a date and send out the invitations
Set a wedding date, but keep a few dates in mind as your wedding venue may not be available.
Determine what sort of wedding ceremony and reception you wish to have (ie. formal, casual, beach, garden etc). This will help you choose your style of venue and wedding dress style etc
Determine an approximate number of guests, as this too will influence where you hold the ceremony and reception.
Start thinking about the style of your wedding gown.
Start looking for a suitable ceremony location and make a tentative booking.
Start looking for a suitable reception venue and make a tentative booking
Choose and book an officiant.
Confirm your ceremony location and pay a deposit
Confirm your reception venue and pay a deposit
Choose and book a caterer (if required)
Choose and order your wedding gown.
Choose and book a photographer.
Choose and book a videographer.
Choose and book your entertainment.

9 to 11 Months Before Wedding

Find and buy a wedding planning folder to keep receipts, booking confirmations and sample images, easily at hand.
Begin your guest list. Ask your parents for their list. This can be finalised closer to the date.
Select your bridal party and ask each person if they will do the honours
Meet with your officiant to discuss the ceremony. This may involve filling in various forms and attending a pre-wedding course
If you are planning to use a wedding planner or stylist, choose and hire them about now, if you haven’t already.
Select the colour scheme for your wedding. You will need this before choosing decorations or bridal party attire
If you are planning an outdoor ceremony, decide if you would like a wet weather option and book this in
If you are planning an outdoor reception book marquee and all other party hire.
Set up your Gift Registry if applicable.

6 to 8 Months Before Wedding

Choose and order bridesmaids attire, involve all bridesmaids.
Choose and order the attire for any junior attendants allowing for possible growth
Choose formal wear for groom and groomsmen. Organise fittings and hire.
Meet with and book florist. Decide what flowers you require and what style you would like.
Choose your wedding cake and order it.
If you are having guests from out of town, search for an affordable hotel near the reception venue and place some rooms on hold.
Send out Save the Date cards, especially if you have many interstate or overseas guests.
Start thinking about the design and wording of your invitations. Try to involve all parents in the wording.
If you are having one, start thinking about honeymoon destinations.
If travelling overseas, look into visas, passport expiry dates and the need for vaccinations.

4 to 5 Months Before Wedding

Finalise your guest list.
Finalise caterer and reception details.
If you are staying in a hotel on your wedding night, reserve the bridal suite.
Finalise wording for all stationery and order it.
Order wedding rings.
Finalise ceremony arrangements with officiant, including marriage licence
Select gifts for each other
Select gifts for bridal party
Choose a hairdresser and book for your trial as well as the wedding day.
Choose a make up artist and book for your trial as well as the wedding day.
Hire vehicles for the bridal party. You will need to decide what sort of transport you need and where the two parties are getting ready.

2 to 3 Months Before Wedding

Choose and purchase bridal accessories such as your veil, headpiece, Jewellery, lingerie and shoes.
Choose and buy grooms accessories, shoes, cufflinks, etc.
Choose accessories and shoes for the bridal party and organise for your attendants to try on shoes. Jewellery is an excellent gift for your bridal party.
Decide and book any additional decorations that you require for your ceremony or reception that are not included, such as red carpet, chair covers, disposable cameras, butterflies to release, ideas are only limited by your imagination.
If you are intending to try new beauty services (such as tanning) or different hair colours for the day, do a test run to avoid any nasty surprises.
If you plan a diet and exercise regime, start it now.
Pick up your invitations and start addressing them.
Confirm fittings and delivery date of your dress.
Confirm with all bridesmaids that dresses and shoes are organised. Be sure to have them try everything on before the wedding day.
Decide what favours you would like and make or order them.
Ask special guests to do readings or take part in the ceremony in any other way that you would like.
Choose a Master of Ceremonies. This can either be a guest or one of Oppy Entertainments professional MC.
Choose the music for your ceremony and reception. Think about what song you’d like playing as you walk down the aisle and sign the register. Think also about what song you’d like to for your first dance.
Talk to the maid of honour and best man about the hens / bucks parties and any bridal showers that you choose to have. They will need lists with names and addresses of who you would like to invite.
Hold your hair and make-up trials. Try to ensure they are on the same day and don’t forget to take your veil and headpiece. Also, while you are looking fabulous, ensure you’ve got a great night out booked!
Purchase anything required for the honeymoon, including tickets and lingerie
Work out wedding day times before you need to confirm bookings

6 to 8 Weeks Before Wedding

Send out invitations 8 weeks before the wedding.
Decide on vows and readings for the ceremony.
Write your ceremony program.
Add more gifts to your registry, if required.
Have your final gown fitting and confirm when the dress is to be picked up.
Order drinks if they are not included in the catering package.
If required, arrange a babysitter or something to entertain any kids at the reception.
Confirm your honeymoon reservations.
Book in to have your nails done professionally about two days before the wedding (if required). You may want to ask your bridesmaids to join in the pampering.

3 to 5 Weeks Before Wedding

If you are having one, organise your rehearsal and rehearsal dinner
Contact everyone in the bridal party and double check that they know exactly what is required of them leading up to and on the day. Ensure they are familiar with times
Any beauty routines that you are still to do, do them now, facials or teeth whitening etc.
Finalise your ceremony structure with your officiant. You will need to let them know the vows and readings that you have chosen.
Pick up wedding rings and check their sizes
Pick up your wedding dress, and store it carefully where no harm can come to it
Decide what you are using for something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue, also organise your garter if it is not one of these items
A few days before you need to confirm final numbers at the reception venue, call all guests who haven’t yet RSVP’d to double-check they are not coming
Confirm all reception details including menus and numbers
Seat your guests using a seating planner and share these details with the reception venue or caterers
Name your place cards and deliver them to the reception venue
If you are going away, check the condition of your luggage

1 to 2 Weeks Before Wedding

Have your rehearsal and rehearsal dinner, confirm your ceremony details and time with the officiant.
Confirm your ceremony location booking, including all times.
Confirm flowers orders, delivery times and locations with your florist.
Confirm cake orders, delivery times and locations with the cake maker.
Confirm photographer time and locations.
Confirm videographer time and locations.
Confirm reception entertainment including choices.
Confirm any party hire including marquees, dancefloors, chair covers etc (if required).
Confirm any decorations or specialty items that you have booked.
Confirm favours, number and delivery details.
Confirm transport times to the ceremony, photo locations, reception location and leaving the reception.
Confirm hairdresser booking, both time and number of people.
Confirm makeup artist, both time and number of people.
Confirm nail treatments (if required).
Confirm formal wear hire.
Confirm wedding night accommodation.
Confirm MC.
Confirm with any guests who are doing readings or participating in the ceremony.
Confirm with any guests who are doing speeches at the reception.
Confirm honeymoon arrangements.
Pack for your wedding night.
Pack for your honeymoon.
Arrange refreshments and food for the bridal party before the ceremony and during the day.
Double-check you have all the accessories you need, such as Jewellery, shoes, veil, tiara, lingerie, extra pair of stockings, garter, your something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.
Have your hens and bucks party
The groom should have a have a hair cut now (if required)
Prepare your wedding speech and thank you’s
Plan the night before the wedding. Who will be staying where?
Leave a copy of your honeymoon itinerary with someone
Organise cash for anything that is to be paid on the day and enlist a trusted person to make any payment on the day

1 Day Before Wedding

Pack car for honeymoon (including your passport and credit cards if you are travelling)
Organise someone to transport wedding accessories
Organise someone to return any hired equipment
Pickup formal wear the day before wedding
Re-confirm the wedding day schedule with wedding party
Gather together everything you will require to get ready on the big day and take it with you to wherever you will be getting ready
Drop off anything required to the reception venue (favours etc)
Check that all formal wear has arrived and is the right size

After the Wedding

Ensure that all formal wear is returned
You’ll probably have received some proofs of your precious wedding photos by now. Start thinking about how you wish to display them.
Check that all wedding bills have been paid in full
Take your gown and veil to be cleaned
If you wish to have your wedding bouquet preserved, take it to be done
Within two months write thank you letters
